On the last day of my recent New York City trip I chowed down at Big Daddy's Diner in Union Square.
I'd actually been to Big Daddy's once before and remembered it being very lively and fun.
The diner really has that 50s feel to it. I thought at any moment I might start singing "Grease Lightening."
The dining room is brightly colored and has several old fashioned signs. I love the illuminated one that says "EAT."
We were seated in a big booth right next to two gum ball machines. Score!
The Big Daddy's menu is huge with an entire back page devoted just to milkshakes.
We were dining around 11:00am so we were right on the cusp of the breakfast to lunch change over.
My brunch date decided on a plate they call the Bow Wow Wow. It's a waffle stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon, American cheese and hash browns, served with maple syrup and a side of tater tots.
Yes, that's right folks, there is an entire meal stuffed between these two waffles. Look at that melted cheese!
I felt more in the mood for lunch and decided to go with a classic diner food, grilled cheese.
I ordered a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich on marble rye, served with a stack of sliced pickles and a side of sweet potato tater tots.
Look at that perfectly toasted bread, the ooey gooey cheese and the bright red, fresh tomato. Yum!
I really would have loved to try one of Big Daddy's signature milkshakes, but we were just too full! I boarded the train back to Boston happy and with a very full stomach.
Big Daddy's is the perfect spot to refuel after a big night out. The portions are huge, the food has just the right amount of grease and the place is totally unpretentious.
Vist Big Daddy's at one of their three locations.
