Grey's Anatomy: Buck Up

Tonight's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" was a bit of a different set up than usual. The entire episode showed Meredith and Cristina's lives in parallel - in bed, at work, during surgery and falling asleep. Though I appreciate Shonda and team wanting to change things up, I wasn't feeling it.

In Seattle Meredith is driving to work (since when does she drive and since when does she drive a Mercedes Benz SUV?) when she notices a car accident. She pulls over, hops out and finds a woman pinned under a car. Meredith convinces all of the strangers staring at the accident to help lift the car and free the woman.

Throughout the episode Meredith is consumed by treating this patient. The chief suggests to Meredith that this may be too close to Lexie's final days and perhaps Meredith should step away. Of course she doesn't.

The only uplifting part of Meredith's story line this week was when she successfully finished her surgery and had her interns join her in a very awkward 30 second dance party.

In Minneapolis Cristina is still sleeping with her reptilian boss. He is trying to get Dr. Thomas (Mr. Feeny) out of the hospital and Cristina is obstinately standing up for him. Just as it seems Cristina couldn't ask for a better mentor, Dr. Thomas passes out during surgery.

The team tries to revive him, but no amount of shocks from the paddles do the trick. Just like that, Cristina loses the one person who was keeping her sane.

I'm sad that Feeny's story line had to end. I always love to see him and I actually learned recently that he was a star of a different show before "Boy Meets World." He was also on "St. Elsewhere." Who knew?

In the final scene of the episode Cristina shows up on Meredith's doorstep. Did she fly there? Did she overcome the fear?

No matter how she got there, she's definitely sticking around since the previews for next week show Cristina is back in action at Seattle Grace and eating the interns for breakfast. She decides to call them by the names of the seven dwarves, "Happy" and "Dopey" and "Bashful." This is going to be good!
